Of course, what can you say if you do not have the knowledge to answer?

Easier to slam the door (or, for instance, when someone asks about origin of languages to say that all languages came from the tower of Babel) than to read and do a little research, or even just provide honest answer "I do not know, but there are specialists in the field - you have to ask them".

But what an embarassment - he (she) would then assume that you are not competent.
