No, some people before Christ did some useful things: measured radius of Earth, started to develop atomistic theory, estimated distances to Moon and Sun, made many inventions facilitating or improving our life (fire, wheel, running water in houses, concrete, cloth making machines, mining, metallurgy, public transportation, selection of grains and livestock to improve nature, and on and on). They even experimented with magnetizm and electricity. So if not suppressive religion dominance in the dark ages (mainly Christianity) when scientists usually were publicly burned in big fires, we would already live in 4th (if not 5th) millenia.
