Everything is relative. The ancient Aztecs weren't wrong to sacrifice people to their gods, it was how their culture was structured. You say society is a factor but not the main one. What, then, is? Morality is our invention. Plain and simple. Of course, in your examples of ML King, Hitler, etcetera, it is more self-determined morality rather than herd mentality, but it's still a human artifact. Was Hitler a butcher? According to us, yes. But according to him, no. I'm not justifying murderous actions, but I've never been afraid to swallow cold pills. |
