Now that is just ignorant! Nobody thought that the world was flat during the 1400's or any time near then. The argument and why no one would fund his travels to the Indies was because they thought the world was too large and that he'd sail for too long before starving. If the Americas didn't exist, that would have been the case. The Portugese had estimated the size of the planet, IN CIRCUMFERENCE, very accurately. That's why Portugel didn't fund his voyage. Had Columbus not stumbled into the Americas, his trip to the Indies would have been his doom. They couldn't have put enough food on the ship to last such a long journey.
