Well, it is quite obvious that god is not perfect. He admits making an error when he flooded the planet. The god shows his desire, as you put it, for fame, honour, glory as different bibles put it. Exodus 14:4 says "And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honored upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD."
This was a current theme in Exodus. So god obviously wants recognition of his greatness. This is one of those deadly sins, PRIDE. Pride leads to imperfection of a noticable scale. Its what is the failing character in all fictional stories, except those really early ones like Beuwolf where Pride actually was considered a good thing.
