The righteous did what they did because of what they believed.

If you believe that Jesus is God it is to be expected that you will do what he did to the best of your ability.

The point on the pain was that God feels hunger when the righteous feel hunger.

Likewise with pain, sickness, loneliness etc.

Notice that He did not say He felt hunger when the unrighteous were hungry.

So regarding the reference to hell apparently it won’t hurt Him.

There will be a time when God has finished showing compassion and the justness of His character will be given the opportunity to display itself.

Those who reject the offered pardon, by the action of their lives, will be treated completely fairly and only given exactly what they deserve.

Of course there is no wrong that is not known by God and no motive that can be hidden from Him.

For myself I would not want God to be fair with me.
