The inspiration and motivation that drives scientists to devote their life to seeking truth, comes from God. But the way it works is that you are given nothing unless you ask for it (scriptural ref missing), and the asking has to be in the form of a question (Ref: direct revelation), one with a brief answer like yes or know- no open ended question will be answered. That's how it works in heaven and on earth.

So nothing but salvation is given to you. You have to educate yourself by asking the right questions, which means that you have to have a body of knowledge to begin with. That is the method of the child, to learn by asking, as scripture teached us to be like.
