Your assumption, that it is all untrue, is the more courageous assumption. My assumption, that it is all true, gives me a sense that all of life`s tribulations are somehow worthwhile. I would find life much more difficult using your assumption.

My suspician is that those who have no hope for the afterlife, yet lead exemplary lives, are judged more favorably than we who are expecting some kind of reward for our lifelong efforts.
