I assumed that physical separation would be necessary to prevent the clean from catching something from the unclean.
This would prevent marriage between clean and unclean people.
Or at least if someone who was clean married someone who was unclean they wouldn’t be clean anymore.
With the elimination of intermarriage a genetic difference must result.

PS
clean refers to a disease free person ( under the bubble )
unclean refers to a diseased person ( on earth )
