I dare say that you probably were not properly taught Christian doctrine if there were this sense of overriding guild from the 'original sin'. The Christian response to the original sin has always been to repent, confess your adherence to Christ, be baptized, and receive the Holy Spirit. After this point in one's conversion, there is nothing outside of casting off that 'first love' that can separate one from God.

Of course, casting off this belief for another is understandable, especially if you felt weighted down by it. But, I don't think it is fair of you to cast a whole religion in the doghouse simply because it wasn't for you. From other people's perspective, what you believe in your alliance with Dick is a doghouse of pseudoscience, so you see there is no end to putting people and their beliefs in doghouses. In fact, wars and mindless actions are continually waged for such attempts.
