Natural resources have been depleted. The massive destruction of the last World War destroyed most libraries and universities, and as a result civilization is going through the Second Dark Ages. Agriculture went back to subsistence farming and most of humanity is starving.

Despite the mighty achievements of the beginning of the third millenium, one thousand years of gloom have caused man to lose faith in himself. The only thing that keeps man alive amid so much despair is man's faith in something greater than himself. It's no longer called God, but it's still a migthy being who watches them from a distance, and whom they still hope to meet after they cease their miserable existence in this wretched world.

I love history too!
