More Spokesperson Than Prophet

The real requirement is someone perceived to have a personal connection to God so that the dictates of that person can be taken on faith. Moses was more a spokesman for god than a prophet. Likewise Jesus who at least during his lifetime made few prophecies, and the most important one, that all would come to pass in the lifetime of the Aposthes turned out to be not so. We are still waiting for the second coming.

Only Mohamed appears to be as much a prophet as a spokesperson. More likely that a member of an already established religion makes prophecies. Same in eastern religions but with much less emphasis on prophecy as of importance.
