Here are some
easily deniable truths.
1) U.S. policy in Iraq is a continuation of
the Reagan policy of rolling back communism.
It might not be such a good idea to make a policy of changing another country's government
except in the most dire situation. I do not
know whether this situation was so dire, but clearly it was important to the Bush Administration. Is this a case of "Bomb It and they will come" ?
2) Saddam Hussein's heroes include Joseph Stalin,
ex-leader of the Soviet Union -- a man who was raised in a Christian home and family. Odd.
3) Reassessment of U.S. goals in Iraq would be wise. Personal or ego feuds are not a good basis for world futures. The art of the possible is always a good guide.
4) The Bush Administration gave $43 million
to the Taliban ( al Queda allies) only 10 weeks before 9-11 occurred. The Taliban was blowing up large Buddha statues because images are not allowed in Islam. Iraq has many statues of Hussein in the old style of Stalin (USSR) or Mao Tse Tung (P.R. of China). Iraq is not much like the Taliban or like al Queda. It is very strange how they imply Iraq is connected to 9-11 but don't really show evidence for it.
5) It is important to keep alive the argument for peace and ways to end the war. It is a matter of freedom of speech and is the right of all Americans who questioned the wisdom of the war before it started and all who come to question it during the war. Loyal Americans may disagree. It is the government's responsbility to clearly communicate the truth of our reasons for going to war. President Roosevelt did such a good job in World War Two in part because the reasons were much more clear and compelling.
