This reminds me of a longstanding question.
Should we suspect that Paul's contribution was
tainted and that Paul's employers used his career
to co-opt Jesus' message and keep their "Taliban"
government going?

Before Paul's moment on the road to Damascus,
he had been ruthlessly and officially persecuting an existing body of followers of Jesus.

When Paul is credited with 'creating Christianity,' should he also be blamed
for its excesses? There was already a Religion
and Paul was one of its worst enemies. Did he create a false cult to draw attention away from
Jesus' teaching. Or, more likely but still unsatisfying, did Paul serve as an agent to co-opt the main point for benefit of "Old Money" in his time, because they saw a bauble they liked and wanted it for their own?
Should the Gospels, which Thomas Jefferson liked, be considered without Paul's writing? I feel they probably cannot serve as a complete instruction book for life, but at least they would be free of a few of Paul's endorsements of conventional thinking of his time.
What would have been the historical result of a Cult of Jesus (following his teachings) without Paul's "help?"
