Someone I know almost nothing about wrote:
"Well said, Mike. A few more posts like that and I might actually start respecting you again."

I could just accept that as a dumb statement.
But I will rake you over your own coals again
because you don't seem to have been injured
and I might not answer you again as things are
going. No malice implied.

I don't have any idea why you think you should
not have respected me.
Your inexperience is your excuse for entering
a longterm forum and hastily choosing sides
and for not noticing my criticism of your ideas
was not dangerous to your health.

Secondly, I have posted many posts of that level of quality in the past year. As a side note, in the archives, I notice some of my cherished personal notions had been mentioned by someone else, even though sketchily, some months before I first participated here. It can happen
to anyone...

Nor do I have any idea why I should care to earn
such a fleeting thing as your respect. It comes
and goes without apparent pattern. Of course, you
have respect worth earning, but perhaps the way
you administer it will need further study.

I have had references from longer-term relationships which will stand in the absence of your general endorsement, if I don't have it.
