If you sin, you cannot be with God because he cannot be with sin. Therefore sinning means seperation with God. One sin means you are seperated from God. So no matter how many good deeds you do, you are seperated from God because of sin. But Jesus covers our sins so we may be with God. Wouldn't a truly benevolent God simply hand us the gift of eternal life if we accept it rather than keeping tabs of our rights and wrongs?
