The day by day rendition of the development of life corresponds the the scientific history of life on earth, except that two days got switched during the period of verbal transmission before the Rabis wrote it down. It is clearly the history of a development of life on earth. That does not mean that it was not created or at least guided by god. But it took millions of years to accomplish, not days. The use of days is merely symbolic, perhaps of a spiritual day, not an earthly day.

This is an interpretation. But it is required by modern science and astronomy, also a gift of god. We know for sure that the universe is billions of years old, that the Milky Way is 100,000 light-yeras across, and that the earth is billions of years old.

Do not get hung up on the Jewish calendar. Even they acknowledge that the world is much older than 6,000 years.
