Some of the very first (and I think, crudest) interpretations of QM require observation in order for a collapse to occur, and many interpretations assume wave collapse must occur in order for things to actually exist. But (1) most interpretations have worked the first problem out, and (2) in my opinion it's questionable to presume -- from our inability to perceive without this collapse -- the notion that reality is composed of "streams" of these collapsing functions. The presumption in (2) stems from an attitude that our sensations are, at least to some extent, independent of reality.
