I don't agree. Our number system assumes nothing. Mathematicians who have formally developed our number systems have studiously avoided making any assumptions about our, or any, universe in defining our number systems.

If your usage of the elipsis in your term ".99999..." is consistent with common mathematical and scientific usage, the difference between those two numbers is zero. I don't think the phenomenon of space curvature can be found in that zero.
