Dick,

Some of my mental image of the Universe is communicable, but a great much of it is not. For example, you cannot relive my life so that my perceptions are your perceptions. You cannot know how my genetic makeup, childrearing practices, etc may have affected my 'mental image'.

On the other hand, we can share a great deal of information about our perceptions of the world that come to us via sense impressions. We can determine with warranted assertibility that our shared experiences constitute a Universe that is 'out there' having such and such properties.
