You grew up in the US, right? In the US we are taught tolerance and acceptance of other views (i.e., to be less dogmatic). I don't think that was the case in the Soviet Union. So, to he who has more, more will be expected. I think we should consider this when dealing with Alex. He cannot help but be the product of a long indoctrinated educational process (i.e., anti-West, judge others harshly on their views, strong atheism, etc). Keep in mind, everything that Alex tells others, he was told 100 times by his Soviet superiors. As he lives in the United States my view is that his views will eventually mellow. But, this requires time and him experiencing less dogmatic and critical views than his own.
