I too would like to weigh in as an expert about something. Do I have to do any book-learnin' about it, or just say, I lived in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and am therefore an expert on those decades. Do I become the arbiter of debates? No. Rigor can be gentle, but if rigor is absent we should not conclude the authority of anecdote makes science.
