Alex,

Einstein was a 'free-thinker' in his teenage youth which was equivalent to an agnostic/atheist. However, after he came to understand the laws of physics he became a believer. He is quoted as saying something to the effect that one cannot seriously doubt that there is a God after finding out how the laws of nature all work together so mathematically orchestrated together.
