In 1987 I had the opportunity to talk with Hawking. I asked him if the universe would bounce when it collapsed into a universal black hole. His said that the collapse is in a different region of phase space than the expansion and therefore it would not re-expand. He was a doomsday type scientist even back then. And biology is definitely not his field. So he is just guessing. My guess is that he needs more money. Or perhaps just likes attention and his rep has been slipping lately. He has not produced anything new in physics for some time now, as far as I know. |
