What makes you think this is folklore?

Please don't say "Because the bible says so." This is just as bad as some who believe every word of the bible just because it "says so." Because the bible emphasizes many things beyond reason does not suggest that many of its stories don't have some basis of truth.

I do not know of any other document which can verify the Jews in Egypt stories in Exodus so it stands alone.

However, another bible narrative describes the capture of the Jews by the Babylonians ( Persians? ). This is also told by Islamic historians. Here we have two sources so we can have at least a little more confidence this is probably true. This is a much more recent event than Exodus (~600BC vs. ~2000BC) so the existence of other sources seems more possible.

If folks are trying to say the Jews were picked on by Christians first, they are ignoring much other information that suggests otherwise. The reason for doing this too often reveals an Anti-Jew and/or Anti-Christian bias.

John
