I think I understood Alex, because I knew about wave trains from a massive textbook on LIGHT by Ditchburn. Sometimes I think of it thus: you are in a kayak on a still lake. A big boat goes by and you see its wake approaching.

When the wake hits your kayak, you bob up and down as the say five waves of the wake 'wave train' pass under your kayak. Then all is calm and peaceful again.

A wave train is like a small passage from a piece of music. The more you sense the momentum of the music (whether it's a crescendo or whatever) the less you know the position (because you've got lots of notes, not just one note). The more you know the position the fewer the notes you have (exact position = one note), so the less certain is the music momentum.
