Another Scope Type

Though I have no personal experience with them, from the reviews the Meade LXD-55 8-inch Schmidt-Newtonian (a relatively new scope to the market) sounds like a good all-around choice, though the short focal ratio won't be optimal for planetary viewing. Be aware that not all eyepieces work well with very short focal ratio scopes (i.e. about f/5 or shorter, or even f/6 with some cheaper eyepieces). Plossls can work at f/4 (and the Meade $99 eyepiece offer is a steal), but you will notice an improvement with premium eyepieces like the TeleVue Radian and Nagler lines.
Still, for the price the scope mentioned above has a lot to offer.
