What do you think of the Meade 8" LX90?

What would be the drawbacks to it when compared to the LX200GPS? Would this telescope be adequate for astrophotography? Because of the price of getting into serious astrophotography, it's doubtful that I would ever do this, but I've learned to never say never.

With my earlier questions that I posted, my true passion is for the planets, but I have a fondness for the deep sky objects as well. I live in Des Moines, IA, so there is a fair amount of light pollution here, so I would probably spend most of my time looking at the planets except for certain nights where I could get out of town to a darker site. Hopefully that gives you an idea of what I am wanting to look at when giving advice on what scope would best suit my needs/desires.

Thanks 1000X over for your advice, it has been a great help.
