How Can I Become An Astronomer?

I would like to take up astronomy for a living. I am very new to this, but I have my whole life ahead of me and am going to start going to school to be an astronomer. I would like to know what my options are once I am done with my schooling? Is there any job in this field I can get now, without a degree. What type of pay should I expect? Is the only job a professor? Any help from astronomers would be greatly appreciated on my upcoming journey. I really do not know where to begin, I just know that this is what I want. Thanks a lot.
