The EQ mounted reflectors are basically a thing that is slowly phasing out. One of the reasons is what you just described. Usually large reflectors are Dobsonian mounted (alt/az) because that particular problem you mentioned doesn`t exist. The EQ mounted version is handy, however like you said,"Cumbersome`. If you like reflectors that can track then I would suggest looking into an SCT. At the Astromart website there is a listing on the front page of businesses. There is a fellow that designs rings.
