I bought one for my nephew for Christmas (DS114) with Auto Star. I have no such problem with the one I bought, His father and I checked it out. It was tight and sturdy. I also know that "floor models" are usually put together wrong or incomplete. Sometimes backwards. Sky & Telescope did a review on this scope and gave it good marks. See if this palce has any reviews.
