Is a matter of fact, any scope without motor drive will not track the item. You you have to track it manually. This becomes more difficult with a dob when pointing at the zenith. The whole idea of the Dobsonian design is to get the biggest mirror on the simplest of mounts. This way most of the money is spent on the optics not the mount. In my opinion, this is great for a big scope 12", 16" 20"+. It makes this size scope affordable to the average amature astronomer. But for a smaller scope, the EQ or Fork mount is a better design. With motor drive or computer drive on a 5" refractor or Mak or 8" SCT, you can do photography, you get tracking and/or computerized goto and lots more. Tracking is great if you plan to share the eyepiece with others at star parties or just with friends. It's your choice. Good Luck. Keep us posted.
That's it;
