Nexstar 8...suggested Eyepieces

I recently purchased a Nexstar 8 for my family and I. It comes with a 40mm 1.25 plossls EP, but I was wondering what was a good upgrade eyepiece for the unit that would significantly increase the magnification while maintaining optical quality.

Do I have to stick with the Celestron Eyepieces, or can I (do I have to) jump to another manufacturer's 1.25" eyepiece to maximize my observation potential (i.e., exceed that which is offered by Celestron)?

I'm new to this, so does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
