I have one of the LUMICON LPR filters. You are right - it does not seem to do anything. Mine turns everything blue (as I am sure yours does) - or so I thought.

Then the other night I was outside and was playing around with it while looking at the Orion Nebula. I was unimpressed, until I noticed that I could see something that was blacker than black. Areas around stars near the nebula had a black background, but when I got to looking near the Trapezium I noticed that I could make out the big black cloud that is between us and the Trapezium a lot better - so much so that I had to come inside and find pictures of it to make sure I saw what I saw.

This part of the nebula appeared to be blacker than black, much like the b-t-b video signal.

I am sold on LPR filters now.
