Center Galaxy Black Hole?

Why is there a black hole at the center of our galaxy, the milky way? Does this hold us together? Since we see evidence of one what significance does this have for us? Is there a black hole at the center of all galaxies? What is it good for? If there wasn't a black hole at it's center then would the galaxy not be here? Does the black hole somehow 'drive' the galaxy?
