in that one could imagine not being able to tell what the source of an attraction was electromagnetic or gravitational if one was shielded from knowing the source of the "force".
where such an analogy might lead one i have no idea but i do find it interesting. your post did trigger the idea so correct me if you think i'm wrong:)...

you say words to the effect that gravity or mass is like a charge that does not have unlike charges and that it would be a case where like charges are attractive of one another. a most interesting thought. let me suggest though that one might think of space-time (which is warped by mass) as the analogous unlike charge of mass. in this case the unlike charges repel rather than attract.
the interesting point being that as two mass "like" charges repel the "unlike" charge of space-time the result is curvature of space-time away from the mass's (but still taking the mass with it) such that the mass's are attracted as a result of the geometry of space-time being curved.

heh heh you say you are stuck, well i tryed to read that far(your entire post) but my lack of understanding of string theory really has me stuck. i think Michio Kaku's "Hyperspace" is helping a bit.
