Depends upon what you mean by laminating. I assume that you are intending to make a lightweight mirror by assembly rather than casting into a complex mold. You can weld glass together and it works. The assembly is lightweight but you can run into problems with the glass fracturing from the heat of working to do the assembly. Annealing is the biggest problem with this and you have to be carefull that you don't exceed the temp rise or fall of the assembly in doing the work. After that is done, then you have to grind and polish a very thin mirror with many supports. The problem that you run into here is "printthrough" where the supports cause the glass to wear deeper than elsewhere. This means that you are going to have to go slower or have some way of pressurizing the back of the glass so that the supports aren't the source of the force for doing the work. When you get done, you will have a very light mirror. Good Luck! |
