Removing Pits

I have put in 5 hours of rouge polishing on my 8" f/7 mirror but there is hardly any change in the no of pits over he surface. The are very few pits on the extreme edge (half and inch or so) but otherwise the pits are scattered more or less evenly everywhere

Is there any cause for worry because as far as i know the no of pits should have reduced.
