NOVA -Nuevo Onyx Village Astronomers will be hosting a free and informal star party on High Way 178 in Kern Valley, July 13-22.

Because this is a first, we want to manange logistics even though it is informal and everything is at your own risk. Therefore Parking will be limited to about 60 vehicles. The telescope sites and static parking will take place behind locked gates. This is the High mountain desert so you can be bitten by ants, bugs, bears, mountain lions, snakes etc. just like any other campout.

This is the Southern Sierras and the #1 recreation place in the world. It is also #1 birding and Bio-diversity area. Astronomy to whitewater rafting takes place here. There are no light domes here but the close proximity to the High Way causes some incidental light which is mitigatable and rare in the later hours. This site is behind a lone cafe with short hours but this provides access to food, facilities and workshops. One of the workshops will be on building your own Barn Mount, using B&W film, developing it and making prints during the Star Party. More on that in the next post.

Looking Up!
Richard
