Unless you are planning on doing long exposure stuff, ie, "deep-skY", I would go with a dob mount because of its simplicity and stability. Viewing is much more comfortable, and planetary photo's are still possible. Build a dob tracking platform and you could do short exposure wide field stuff with a piggyback camera. I haven't seen any equatorial mounts out there for under 1000.00 that would do what you REALLY want with an 8" f/8 tube unit. I built a massive equatorial years ago and it was so heavy and setup time was almost an hour each time, so viewing sessions became a chore rather than a pleasure! For what its worth.
