I HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THE CELESTRON CG5 WHICH
IS A CLONE OF THE GP-DX. I REPLACED THE THE GLUE-
LIKE CHINESE GREASE WITH LITHIUM GREASE. I ALSO
REPLACED THE WOBBLY ALUMINUM TRIPOD WITH OAK. THE
VIXEN MOTORS AND CONTROLLERS ARE FAR SUPERIOR
TO THE CELESTRON MODELS. I HAVE SEEN THE CG5 FOR
AS LITTLE AS $350. IT CAN ACCOMODATE UP TO ABOUT
20 LBS. EVERYTHING IN THE CG5 IS ADJUSTABLE SO
ONE CAN FINE TUNE THIS MOUNT. THERE HAS BEEN A
GREAT DEAL OF CRITICISM LEVELED AT THIS MOUNT, BUT
AFTER SOME WORK IT IS THE EQUAL OF THE GP.
I SAVED ABOUT $400 OVER THE GP MODEL AND HAD A LITTLE FUN AS WELL.
