Digital Camera Focus Settings For Afocal Setup??

I have a Kodak DX4900. I have been able to get focused images of the moon, but my platentary (jupiter and saturn)images are all out of focus. There is a setting for distance photos that will set the focus at infinity. Is that what I need?
Also, this is a basic one, does the camera lens have to be right up to the eyepiece or can you focus the image by adjusting the distance of the camera lens to the eyepiece. Exposure time for Jupiter and Saturn, any suggestions. Will exposure time have any effect on focus.
Thanks for the patience.
