Hi Joe,

Well, I have had a chance to try the xephem 3.2.3 binary built on RH 6.2 running on a RH 7 system and I found /no problems/. I tried all the Views, including Saturn and Jupiter. Perhaps there are some other differences..

On the RH 7 system the latest glibc patch was installed, as shown by "rpm -qf /lib/libc.so.6" reporting glibc-2.2-5.

Also, I use fvwm as my window manager. This is an oldy but a very stable WM. Perhaps something strange is going on with your gnome setup (I personally find gnome way too buggy for serious use -- flames to /dev/null please). Maybe you could try fvwm2, twm or kde and see if you have better luck. Please let me know. I hate to code apps to work around buggy systems, but if you build xephem with -g and can trap exactly where it is failing with gdb I would consider looking into it for the betterment of mankind (oh brother!).

Regards,

Elwood
