For those who may download the hipparcos catalogue from ftp://astro.estec.esa.nl/pub/hipparcos/data -> some data in the hipparcos.edb file appear to give rise to plotted positions differing from existing star positions the v3.4 XEphem 'base' distribution by the order of a few arc-minutes in RA and Dec. The 'sypmtom' noted, after loading the hipparcos.edb file -> a significant number of 'dual' stars, just a few arc-mins apart which seem to refer ot the same object.
