Prehaps it is becuase they dont want to carry a dead cow along with them through the universe.

From what I have read they seem to eat more vegetables products than meat so why would they want something they no longer have a use for.

Also if they didnt throw it out back on earth, they may contaimate their spacecraft and also other parts of the universe and I think that is the reason why they throw them back out.
