As it happens, I've just put a bio of Robert Goddard on the Web, after researching his life. So I think I can give you a good answer.

First, there is no "Robert Goddard Jr." Goddard died childless, and his father's first name was Nahum. You obviously have gotten a garbled report.

That report is partly true. When Goddard wa 17, he climbed a cherry tree in the family orchard to prune some limbs. Perched up there gazing over the countryside, he had a vision of travelling to Mars in a spacecraft that he had designed himself. That vision determined the whole course of his life.

But as for alien abductions and paralyzing beams of light, well, they just are not part of the true story.
