None of this really changes what "Pluto" really is or has been.

Yes it does. Again, what NASA is saying is that there isn't a single rock called Pluto, and there is no Charon. It's not the same rock they've been looking at all these years. Pluto as a single body is a myth. It's just something somebody thought they saw once and has been taught the same way for decades. Each time someone looked up in the place where Pluto was supposed to be they saw another asteroid. There is no Pluto. There is no planetoid to even argue over. That's the big deal. That for decades we've believed in something, planet or not, that never existed.
