According to a recent article at Space Daily, stars with high metal content are far more likely to have planets. Astronomers have until now believed that only 5% of stars have planetary systems. The new data indicates this is not true for all stars. Since stars with a lot of iron and nickel etc have a 20% likelihood of having worlds the overall average increases. Therefore, not only can we now narrow down likely stars in our neighbourhood, but the estimated number of worlds just grew. With more worlds comes more posibility of life. |
