Yes it true, just about any optical aid will be lots of fun. Absolutly, get a good star chart. I recommend Skywatching by David Levy. He gives you maps of all 88 constillations and shows you what you can see with the naked eye, binos, small and large telescopes. Real helpfull. It's not unusual to wish you got the "bigger one". Eveyone I know wants a bigger scope or bigger binos. I have the Orion 15x70 bonos. Real nice. The Pleiades just explodes with stars and M31 just about fills the field from end to end. Have Fun.
