A quick addendum, since I just remembered a couple of details that were apparent in the Pentax that I hadn't seen before; in the spherical galaxy of the pair M81/82 (yeah, I forgot which is which) there was a faint but perceptible brightening toward the center; and the irregular galaxy appeared to have a darker line along the length of it.
I was too caught up in playing with the new ep's to take notes - of course my observing skills are still under development, too!
